I've lived in Girdwood my entire life. It's a charming town with a close community of kind people. It's distance from Anchorage makes it somewhat challenging in terms of commuting to school or work, but overall, it's a great place to live. The vast amount of outdoor activities available to residents is well-worth the long drive to Anchorage!

Girdwood is a small but beautiful ski resort town surrounded by snow capped mountains and forest. There are plenty of trails for hikers of all ages, each with stunning views of true Alaskan wilderness. There are also delicious restaurants to choose from for sit down meals or a quick bite (there's even a brewery!) The people are friendly and range from upper crust families who work in the oil industry, ski bums and transient folk who arrive for the various seasons. Everything is walkable, or bike friendly, but there's also a free shuttle that runs pretty reliably every day. Pricing for housing can vary but families with multiple homes typically rent out affordable units for couples or singles; buying is another story, and prices can often skyrocket.
