Alexander Zverev will head into Sunday's final with the knowledge he can see off Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros.

Why? Because he's done it before.

The German fourth seed triumphed in four sets against Alcaraz back in 2022.

However, the Spaniard has won two Grand Slam titles since then, while Zverev is still searching for his first.

    Ruud 6-2 2-6 4-6 2-6 Zverev

French Open finalist Alexander Zverev speaking about his US Open final defeat in 2020: "I was two sets up and a break up. I was not ready to win my first Grand Slam final. I was too much of a kid still. I'm 27 now, I'm getting older. If not now, then when.

"I've been on tour for 11 years. I'm still enjoying the game and trying to improve. I'm in my first Roland Garros final and hopefully I can win my first Grand Slam."

    Ruud 6-2 2-6 4-6 2-6 Zverev

French Open finalist Alexander Zverev, speaking on court: "I can't describe the feelings. I'm extremely happy, I've got so much history on this court. I've got some of the best and worst memories on this court. I'm in the final after my fourth semi-final and I'm going to give it my all on Sunday.

"If I waited, you saw how quickly the first set went away. Casper is too good a player to wait. I knew I had to be aggressive to take it to him. The balls went in and I'm happy to be in the final."

On Casper Ruud: "Look, I thought the first two sets were very high level, then end of the third I saw he started to move slower. His shots were still the same. If I was more passive then he would've won the match. Credit to him for finishing the match. Great champion and a great person."

A disappointing evening for Casper Ruud, who very clearly wasn't able to compete at his best tonight.

It's another near miss for the 25-year-old, who was runner-up in the last two years at Roland Garros.

    He'll be back.

    Not all of it good.

But this is a moment to remember for the German fourth seed.

Not the way that Zverev would have wanted to win this against a Casper Ruud who was clearly unwell in this match. Ultimately, you can only play the man in front of you.

Casper Ruud has hung in as much as he could because it's the professional thing to do but the double break should prove decisive.

    He hasn't. 0-15.

I had high hopes for a really terrific contest and I thought Casper Ruud would win. What a nightmare for him. It just shows how hard these Grand Slams are.

Casper Ruud seems to have a bit of energy back, but his serving is still well below par by his standards.

He think he's opened up a 30-0 lead with a fizzing forehand but it's challenged by Alexander Zverev and the mark doesn't lie.
